Snapshot Sunday

A view of Lamb House (the house on the right with the black door) and its adjoining garden as seen from the top of St Mary's Church in Rye, East Sussex.  This is the house (Mallards) and secret garden that is featured in the Mapp and Lucia novels where Miss Mapp climbs to the top of the church tower and spies the 'apparently' flu-ridden Lucia exercising in the garden.  The crooked chimney belonging to Mallards Cottage, where Georgie lived, is visible in the forefront.

Thank you for posting this - one day I will have to visit as I know Sussex pretty well and love Mapp & Lucia. Looks like quite nice weather as well. We had apocalyptic weather all over the weekend here in Northern France, but it is beautifully sunny and still now! Thanks for sharing, Hannah

I omitted to mention that the photo was taken in Summer, although it is sunny here too at the moment :-) I hope you are all well where you live. We have also had very crazy, wet weather here in Kent and several villages around me were flooded yesterday. I live very close to the tidal River Medway and have been keeping an eye on the water level recently.

I love Sussex. Do visit Rye when you have a chance. It is well worth it for seeing the Mapp and Lucia locations alone, although it is a very pretty and history-rich village in its own right. It's lovely in summer although thronging with visitors :-)

What a beautiful view! I keep meaning to read Mapp and Lucia, and hope very much that it is one of my birthday presents!

I hope you do get them as a gift! They are superb :-) Then you could visit Rye and try to identify the locations :-) There's a guide to Tilling (Benson's Rye) that you can purchase at the Martello Bookshop in the High Street that takes you through the places in the book. Of course, Rye is well worth a visit in its own right.

Snap! I'm also reading Lucia in Wartime: read it many years ago and have spent all that time since trying to locate it again. Enjoying it greatly.
I'm also a fan of MC Beaton and Simon Brett.
Cheers,
Brian

Brian: welcome to my blog and thank you for visiting :-)
I see that you are the same Brian Kavanagh who writes the Belinda Lawrence mysteries! I have the first book on my TBR list and look forward to reading it this year.
I am enjoying 'Lucia in Wartime' too and should be finished soon.
Glad to find another fan of M C Beaton and especially Simon Brett - I haven't come across too many people who read his books... don't know why as they are well written and witty - my favourite are the Mrs Pargeter novels.
